in which patients treated with 3 injections were observed
for 60 days.
There

a
large study involving 495 patients with knee pain due to osteoarthritis
was performed in the United States. The study observed the
safety and effectiveness of Hyalgan. The patients were placed
in one of three groups. One group was given an injection of
Hyalgan into one knee joint once a week for 5 weeks. The second
group was given an injection of salt water into one knee joint
once a week for 5 weeks. The third group received two naproxen
tablets every day for 6 months. The Osteoarthritis Joint pain
was measured in all 495 patients throughout the 6 months.
Patients who suffer from osteoarthritic knee joint pain who
did not get relief from normal painkillers or from general
exercise and physical therapy got pain relief from Hyalgan
injections into the knee joint. The pain relieve did vary
and mostly the pain relief was not seen in some patients until
after the fifth injection.

How
fast will I experience relief after using this Injection?
Obviously pain relief will vary from patient to patient and
may also depend on the severity of the knee pain. Some patients
have experienced relief within a week of the first injection.
In some clinical studies, the majority of patients noticed
a slight difference within one week following the third injection;
however, the majority of pain relief was not seen in some
patients until after the fifth injection.
How
long will the results last after the 5 injections?
The majority of Osteoarthritis patients experience months
of pain relief after the 5 treatments.. Results will vary
from patient to patient. In a clinical study in which patients
received 5 weekly injections of Hyalgan, this
knee injection was often
shown to effectively relieve knee pain at 26 weeks. Since
patients were not followed beyond 26 weeks, it is unknown

Does

anesthetic beforehand to reduce the pain.
Are
there any common side effects associated with Hyalgan injections?
As with any knee injection, you may experience some pain and/or
swelling. most commonly the side effects of Hyalgan therapy
are at the injection-site pain, also swelling, heat and/or
redness, rash, itching, or bruising around the joint. If there
are any effects, such effects are generally mild and usually
do not last for long. This Injection has been proven around
the world and Hyalgan has been in clinical use for 16 years,
and more than 10 million injections have been given. The reported
cases of allergic reactions with this
knee injection have been
very rare.
Why
should I not take Hyalgan?
You should not take this injection if you have had any previous
allergic reaction to Hyalgan or other injection medications
containing hyaluronan. You should not have an injection into
